Outlook Express Mail Setup

In your Internet Explorer Browser , click the Mail icon. Then, select Read Mail from the drop down list.

The Internet Mail Configuration window will open. Click Next to continue.

Type in your First and Last name exactly the way you want others to see it when they receive your message. Name identifies who is sending the message (e.g. Sally Smith) and appears on all outgoing messages as the Sender's name.

Type in your E-mail address (All lower case and no spaces - e.g. username@jcis.net ) User name is also called a Login name. E-mail addresses must be in the format: username@provider.com *The "@" sign separates "who" the message is going to from "where". Example: If your user name is "bob", your E-mail address would be bob@jcis.net. Messages for "bob" would be received at JC'S Interactive Systems (jcis.net). Click Next to continue.

This step is extremely important! This is the Post office where your computer will look to deliver and retrieve mail.

Type " mail.jcis.net" for both Incoming and Outgoing Mail Servers. (All lower case and no spaces.)Click Next to continue.

Account is the same as user name. The Mail Server uses this information to identify the user before access to the mailbox is allowed. *Don't confuse your user name with your e-mail address. Enter your user name and password assigned during sign-up. Click Next to continue.

Select "I use a modem to access my mail". The " Dial-up Networking connection" box will now be active (white). Click the arrow on the right side of the box to display connection choices.

Click on " JC's Internet ". If a connection to JC's Internet is not listed you will need to create one before you are able to complete setup. Click "Add" to start the Dialup Connection Wizard. Click Next, then click Finish to complete the process.

Testing Your Settings
You will now test your Internet Mail settings by sending yourself a simple "test message". Click on New Message. A new E-mail message page will appear.

In the "To" field, type in your E-mail address (Example: bob@jcis.net ). On the "Subject" line type "test " . This will complete the address information needed to send your message. Additional text information or file attachments may be placed in the message area below as desired.

Click Send to process your test message.

*Note- You may receive an advisory that your message will be placed in the Outbox until the next time you select "Send and Receive". If you would like to stop this message from displaying each time you attempt to send mail, click the box next to "Don't show me this message again" , and click OK.

If not already connected, Dialup Networking will attempt to connect with JC'S Internet to send your message.

To receive your test message, click the Send and Receive icon. Internet Mail will now look for any incoming mail and send all outgoing messages remaining in your Outbox.

If your test is successful will see your Test message displayed in the Inbox.

If you do not see your message, check your settings. Try sending the message again. If after checking your settings you are still not able to send or receive your E-mail you may need to call for technical assistance. *Basic Dialup connection and E-mail support is available by phone at (707) 425-7100 Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

**Support is limited to basic dialup software and E-mail/News configuration of Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator software only. Software training is not included with monthly Internet service agreement. Users requiring training or advanced software/hardware support will be billed at our standard labor rate.
