Netscape Mail Setup

1. Once you have established a connection and brought up the Netscape main page, you are now ready to setup your Netscape 4.X e-mail feature. To begin, go to the top left and observe your toolbar options; File, Edit, View, Go, Communicator, and Help.

2. Click on "Communicator" and then select the option Messenger Mailbox. A Mail and Discussion groups setup box will now appear.

3. To begin mail setup, click next.

4. A screen will appear prompting you for three inputs;Your Name, E-mail Address, and Outgoing Mail server.

5. In the first box, simply enter your name as you would like it to appear on all outgoing emails you send.

6. In the next box you must enter your complete e-mail address. This will be your username@jcis.net in all lowercase letters. If your username is joe, your e-mail address will be joe@jcis.net.

7. In the next box you will need to enter the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server. In this line you will need to enter "mail.jcis.net" in all lowercase letters. Ensure it is entered correctly, or your ability to send e-mail may be affected.

8. Click next to continue.

9. The next box will appear prompting you for three inputs. These will be mail server user name, incoming mail server, and the mail server being used.

10. In the first box, mail server user name, enter the username you chose when you first signed up with our service. Make certain it is in all lowercase letters.

11. In the next line, incoming mail server, you will need to enter "mail.jcis.net". Make certain it is entered correctly or you may experience trouble receiving e-mail.

12. The last box will require you to choose your mail server type. Ensure that Pop3 is selected and click next to continue.

13. The next screen will appear asking you for your news (nntp) server. Enter "cnews.newsguy.com". in all lowercase letters. Below this line is a box with a Port setting. It should be set to 119. Click finish and prepare to test your e-mail.

14. Once you have completed the e-mail setup, the Netscape inbox will appear. To test your e-mail, go to the upper left and click on new message. You maybe prompted for your username and password. If so,enter them and click next.

15. Your cursor should now be flashing in the To: box of the composition page. Type in your complete e-mail address.

16. In the subject box, type in the word test. Move your mouse to the upper left of the composition box. Click on the send button, and the Composition box should disappear. You should now be back to the Netscape Inbox.

17. Move to the upper left to the Get Message icon and click on it. Netscape mail will now check for any new messages and if your mail is configured properly, you will receive the test message you just sent.
