FTP Instructions Using Other Programs

Publishing a Web Page to Your Personal Web Space on JC’s Interactive Systems Server

*Note: These instructions apply only to “personal” web pages. If you have a domain hosted on our server, i.e. www.yourdomain.com, contact us directly for information pertaining to your web site. When you have finished designing your personal web page and are ready to publish it to the Internet, there are a few small details to remember: 1. The first page that you want people to see when they go to your web address needs to be saved as ‘index.html’. Be careful to note that this is NOT the same as ‘index.htm’.

Download your choice of FTP programs:

WS_FTP

CuteFTP

Click the link for the FTP program you wish to download. Select your region and state, then the site you wish to download from. A box will appear asking you where you wish to save this file. Select the folder on your computer where you would like to save this file, for example, in the Programs folder of your drive C: Click "Save" and wait for the download to complete.

Installing Your FTP Program
Find the file named f_x86t32.exe (WS_FTP) on your computer and double click on it. After clicking the button on your screen to start the installation, select the folder where you wish to have WS_FTP (it's recommended that you use the default folder shown on your monitor). You may choose which portions of the program to install or you may accept the default choices by clicking "OK". When you are asked if you wish to install additional FTP sites, click "Yes". You will be given a choice about where you wish the WS_FTP icon to be, select "Desktop" as it will be easy for you to find when you are ready to use it.

OR

Find the file named cute2632.exe (CuteFTP) on your computer and double click on it. Click the "OK" button to begin installation. You may select the folder where you wish to put CuteFTP although we recommend you use the default folder that is shown. Click "OK" to continue the installation. Click "Yes" or "No" when asked if you have previously installed CuteFTP on your computer. Click "Yes" to add a shortcut to your Start Menu, then "OK" to approve the folder for the shortcut. Again click "OK" to finish the installation and "OK" to let CuteFTP verify the files. If you are ready to set up your FTP program to connect to JC's Interactive and transfer the files you will need to make changes to your storefront. Open the FTP program you have installed and follow the directions below.

Setting Up WS_FTP
In the Session Properties dialog box, click "New". Next to Host Name/Address type: ftp.jcis.net. Type the username and password you were given (these are the same username and password you use to dial up to JC's Interactive) and check "Save Pwd". Click "Apply", then "OK".

Connect to JC's Interactive using WS_FTP
Click "Connect". In "Profile Name", select: jcis.net. Make certain your username and password are entered, and click "OK".

Setting Up CuteFTP
On the toolbar at the top of the program window, Click "File", "Site Manager", "Add Site". Click on the General Tab. Under "Host Address" type: ftp.jcis.net In the spaces for User ID and Password type the username and password you were assigned. In the Login Type, check the button for "Normal". Then click "OK".

Connect to JC's Interactive using CuteFTP
Highlight "jcis.net" and click "Connect". You should not have to enter your username and password. You will automatically be taken to the directory where your files are.

How to Transfer Files
Make ABSOLUTELY certain to keep backup copies of the original files you download before altering them in any way, and that you browser-test all pages very thoroughly before uploading them to JC's Interactive. We cannot stress enough how important these backup copies are.

First you need to create some folders on your computer to hold the files from JC's Interactive. To do this:

Click "Start" on your computer's toolbar, then "Programs", and "Windows Explorer". Highlight the drive where you wish to place this folder, such as C: From the toolbar at the top of the window, select "File", "New Folder". The new folder will be highlighted and you can now name it by typing in something like "MyWebsite". Now you are ready to transfer your files.

Open your FTP program and connect to JC's Interactive as explained earlier in setting up your program. The window on the left displays the directories and files on your computer, and the directories and files for JC's Interactive in the right window. Navigate through the directories and files on your computer by double-clicking either a folder name or the arrow in the window. Open the correct folder on JC's Interactive in the same way.

Using WS_FTP to Transfer Files
If you are transferring files TO JC's Interactive, highlight the desired files on the left and click the ">>" button. To transfer files FROM JC's Interactive, highlight the desired files on the right and click "<<".

Using CuteFTP to Transfer Files
If you are transferring files TO JC's Interactive, highlight the desired files on the left and double-click. To transfer files FROM JC's Interactive, highlight the desired files on the right and double-click. You may also "drag and drop" files with CuteFTP

Once you have all the files you will need, make copies of each of them and place those copies in the backup folder you created earlier.

To make copies:
Highlight the file, then right click your mouse. From the menu select "Copy". To put the copies into the backup folder, click on the folder name on the left portion of your screen to open it. Click on the right side portion of the window, then right click and select "Paste". You should see your files appear in the backup folder.
