FTP Instructions Using a Netscape
Browser
Publishing a Web Page to Your Personal Web Space on JCs
Interactive Systems Server
*Note: These instructions apply only to
personal web pages. If you have a domain hosted
on our server, i.e. www.yourdomain.com, contact us directly
for information pertaining to your web site. When you have
finished designing your personal web page and are ready to
publish it to the Internet, there are a few small details
to remember: 1. The first page that you want people to see
when they go to your web address needs to be saved as index.html.
Be careful to note that this is NOT the same as index.htm.
You may use a Netscape browser to connect and upload your
file(s) in the following manner: Start Netscape, and enter
into the address line ftp://www.jcis.net, you
will be prompted to enter your password, this is the same
as the password you use to connect to the Internet. Once you
have done that, a listing of your web space will show up in
the window. To upload a file, simply drag it from the desktop
(or another window such as the Windows Explorer screen)
into the Netscape window. You will be asked if you want to
upload the files, click Yes.
NOTE: Using this method, you cannot delete
files, or create subdirectories to help with organization
you may only upload files. If you are simply putting
up a small personal or family page, this is just fine for
you. If you need these features, please see "FTP with
Other Programs" to download and use software that supports
these tasks.
If you have any difficulties, please call technical support
at 425-7100.
